夏休みにみんなが
散っていく前に、ゴルフ場にあるレストランでのあつまりとなりました。
みんな英語の先生とその家族。
ポーランド人、チェチェン人、トルコ人、イギリス人。
なかでも、そのトルコ人の先生は、なかなか面白い人。心理学者になりたくて、
大学で勉強したけれど、トルコでは、需要がなくて、
英語の先生になった人。

３度も結婚、離婚を繰り返したので、
マリッジカウンセラーとしての経験は十分あるとおもったんだけど
というトルコ人の彼女の右手にもたれていたこの機械は、いったいなんだと
たずねたところ、電子たばこという。
なんと彼女は、３５年間もタバコを吸い続けた。
ついに、ある日、
やめなければならないと決意。
しかし、そんなに簡単にはいかない。
そこで、彼女が入手したものは、この電子たばこ。
タールが入っていないので、害はないとか。
残念ながら、
この機械も、この機械のなかにいれる液体も、
このUAEでは、許可がおりていないので、
外国で入手。

私も、実は若いころ、面白半分にタバコをすっていたことがある。
若気のいたり。
なんだか、大人になったような気分だった。
煙にお金を払うなんて、ばかげているという、
誰かの言葉で次の日からやめた。
そういうことは、人に言われなくてもわかっているのに、
なぜか、夢中になっているときは
人の言葉が心の中にはいってこないときがあった。
この機械で、あのころのことを急におもいだした。
みんないろんな経験をして、生きていく。

We were invited to iftar dinner last night because almost all of the expats will leave somewhere soon  for  summer.

All were English teachers and their families who are from Poland, Chechnya, Turkey, and England.

The lady from Turkey is funny. She wanted to be a psychologist, so she studied hard in university, but,  unfortunately, there was not much demand in Turkey. So she had to change the life plan.  She became an English teacher. She was saying "I got married 3 times and divorced 3 times, so I thought I'd had enough experiences as a psychologist though."

When I was talking with her, I realized she was holding a machine which I'd never seen before.

She explained about it. She smoked for 35 years, but one day she thought she had to quit.

So this machine is helpful she told me.

It is called  an electric cigarette. There is no tar.

She is using is like a baby's pacifier.

 The machine is not available in UAE yet. So she got it from abroad.

When I was young, I smoked for a while, because I felt it was so cool. One day, somebody asked: Why do people pay money for a smoke?

I quit the next day.
