Al Ain , year 2000

Al Ain, year 2000.

When we came here in 2000, the place was full of white and gold taxies with  Afghan and Pakistani drivers.
The base fare was about  $0.68.
We could go anywhere in this town for $3.

The year 2017.
Unfortunately, these old taxies have completely vanished.
Prices have gone up dramatically in  2017.

I met a Pakistani driver who had a very bright personality when we came here.
I wonder where he is now. He was proud of his three sons who graduated from universities. He worked for 40 years in the UAE and sent money to them.
An old photo which I took 17 years ago near town centre made me think of him.
