ガム

今日から、やっと学校。
昨夜は、制服に靴にバッグを再チェック。
靴のそこにべったりついた、ガムを何とか取りたいと、12歳の娘は奮闘しているが、どうするかほっといた。どうしても取れないという。

そこで、母の出番。
わたしは、氷とともに登場。
ガムの上にね、氷をおいて硬くする
そのあと、ごしごし焼き鳥の串でそぎおとす。
あらあら、簡単におちた。

母は、賢いのだ。

最近、母の威厳はほとんどなくなりつつある。

12歳のほうの靴のサイズは、３８．わたし、３７．なんと、去年、娘のお下がり、運動靴をもらうことになった。
英語のレベルは、もう、いうまでもない。

ピアノも抜かれた。
ｐｃの扱いも抜かれた。

私の威厳を見せるときは、靴の裏についたガムをとるときくらいか？
と、寂しい今日この頃である。


It is the first day of the second term of my daughter's school.
She was preparing her uniform, shoes and school bag last night.

In her horror, she found at the bottom of one of her shoes was a piece of chewing gum. She was trying to remove it by using a cloth somehow, but it was not successful.  So I went over and helped out. I used an ice cube to make the chewing gum harder and I then scratched at it. The horrible dirty chewing gum was removed easily.

Her shoe size has turned to one size bigger than mine. 
Her piano level has gone higher than mine. 
English...she speaks it fluently, being a native speaker. And so on. 

These days, it is getting harder to preserve my dignity as a mother. 
Maybe the only chance I have is by removing chewing gum from her shoe?

これが、なんの値段かというと、1匹のブルーフィンツナの値段。
世界の80％が日本人によって、消費されるというツナ。
日本人嫌われるわな。


It was announced that the price of a blue fin tuna is 15,540,000 yen in Tokyo yesterday.

80% of tuna is consumed by the Japanese. I understand why the  Japanese have lots of enemies.

About a boy

Hugh Grant の映画で、About a boyというのがある。
かなり、好きで今週木曜の夜のムービーナイトは私が、これを久しぶりに選ぶ。
彼は、相変わらず天才的な演技を見せ、いつ見ても笑わせてくれる。

この映画だけではないけれど、絶対日本では考えられないシーンがでてくる。
主役の男の子の母親は離婚しているのだけど、クリスマスには、その分かれだんながクリスマスプレゼントとともに、やってきて、仲良く夕ご飯。分かれただんなだけだったらいいけど、ガールフレンドまで来る。おまけにそのガールフレンドの母親まで来る。みんなで、プレゼントの交換をしたりして、いいムード。そんなばかなことがあるのかと、この映画を見るたびにおもっていたけど、どうも、イギリスでは、いや(欧米では？）ふつうらしい。私が、離婚した後ああいうことをするかどうか、、、どうも、日本人には、理解できないものがそこここにある。


About a Boy is my favourite movie. 
There is one scene, I can't understand.The main character, who was a young boy, whose mother had got divorced  but the ex husband came to their Christmas party with a large smile on his face, his new girlfriend sitting next to him and his girlfriend's mother sitting next to her. How? How can they keep a relationship like that? Why were they invited? Generally Japanese don't do this. If I was in their situation, I wouldn't be able to act this way.

250度

クリスマスのローストターキーで大成功をおさめ、ちょっと、
鼻高々になっていたのが失敗のもと。
正月のもう1度食べたいというリクエストで焼いてみる。
しかし、
温度の設定にミスあり。
250度で１０分。170度で、1時間。(ターキーのサイズによる）
で、250度に設定したまま、1時間放置。

その後、170度に落とすも、
250度でがんがん焼かれた過去は消えない。
高温だったため肉汁がほとんどない。
味？
最悪。変な臭みが封じ込まれた感じがある。
クリスマスのときは、来客があるということで、失敗は許されないという緊張感のおかげか
最高のできだった。
今回は、食べる家族の顔が曇っている。

どう？
たずねてみたが、
愛想で、おいしいという。失敗は私が誰よりも、知っている。
当分ターキーのリクエストはないだろう。

油断禁物。



I roasted a turkey on Christmas.
I just followed the recipe and the first step was to set the oven to 250 degrees for 10 minutes and 170 degrees for an hour.
But I did 250 degrees for 60 minutes this time. I forgot to turn down to 170 degrees.
-Since the temperature was too high, the taste was awful.

Security is the greatest enemy.

1月2日

 

新年と、ミニトマトはなんの関係もありません。昨夜ラデイッシュに挑戦しておりましたが、

むずかしくてギブアップ。アルアイン水彩クラブに助けを求めることになり、

情けないと思ったので、ラデイッシュがだめなら、ミニトマトではどうだと、がんばってみるも、ミニトマトといわなければなんだかわからないものになったけど、ラデイッシュよりまし。(と思う）

アルアインのあるストリートを、

インデイゴで、描いてみました。

これから、

色で描いてみるつもり、、、というのが山のようにある。

トーンで描いたほうが、味があるような。

 

 

 

1月1日

Food colourで、ペイントしたもんがファイルの中から出てきた。白いビルは赤になり、想像で高いビルもくっつけた。しばらくは、食紅で楽しめますが、色が1度ついたら落ちないので要注意。

12月30日

Jahli Park で久しぶりのスケッチしましょうと、友人Mさんと待ち合わせ。
待ってる途中に、カンナを見つけて写真に収める。つくやいなや、トイレが必要となったわたし。
イギリスで、税金収めず大問題を引き起こしたStarbucksなんかに絶対はいらないもんね、との決心はすぐぐらつき、結局、公衆トイレのドアを開ける勇気が無く、スタバで、お茶。
すぐでるつもりが、ウダウダと1年を振り返る話になると、あら、もう夕ご飯の時間。
あらまー、絵なんて、まったくかかないまま帰宅。
で、家で描きました。


This flower called is called "kanna" in Japanese. Does it have a name in English?
I went to Jahli park yesterday and met one of my fellow watercolour lovers, madame H. When I arrived, I needed the toilet, so we got into Starbucks and ordered a coffee, as I can't use the toilet and not order anything, of course. We were planning to paint flowers in the park, but we talked for almost three hours and we realized there was not enough time to paint. So I painted this from a photo I took.

Green Mubazarrah

 Or, you could call it Blue Mubazzarah.

This is a hot spring spot. The hot water is running down this stream. 

 

（スペルがちょっとあやしい。）

 

アルアインに温泉がでるところあります。

これは、がんがん流れ出しているお湯が

流れていってるところ。

グリーンムバザラというところですが、青でかいたでの、ブルームバザラになりましたーーー。

 

 

悪い癖、触りすぎ。

計画はすっきり、終わるはずだったのに、あちこち触るとこいういう結果。

 

 

12月24日

クリスマスに買ったろうそくと、ピーマン。
ピーマン？
このクリスマスに？
あまり、意味はないのだけど、まじめにかいたことがなかったので。

触りすぎて、つるつるした感じがなくなりました。ピーマンがぼけてる割には、影がシャープになり、、、、、。

12月25日

UAEに住んでいるのは、幸運かもしれない。

アフガニスタンにいかなくても、

パキスタンにいかなくても、

こういうふうに

彼らの日常を目にすることができる。

クリスマスとはいえ、

もちろんこの国では、ふつうにお仕事。

ごくろうさまです。

 

コーランの教えで、あごひげをカットしない人たちをみるのも、

スカーフをこういう風にしているのをみるのもとても楽しいもの。

ちょっとこれは、色が薄すぎ？

これは、写真から2回目の挑戦。

二人のバランスがとてもいい。(と思う）

わたしの写真のセンス、少しはましになってきたような。

 

This one was the second try.

I took this photo almost a month ago. I think this is one of the best shots.

The colour was too light. What a shame!

I will try the third one soon.

 

 

 

 

12月26日 

 

花の練習。

パレットのへばりついたインデイゴブルーを何とか掃除して、年末だしすっきりしたいとやってみましたが、写真にとると、かなり色が薄い。現物はもうちょっとまし。(と思う）

 

 

 

12月27日

 

生き延びるためには、ウダウダ文句を言ってる場合じゃないよ。

えさをさがさないと。えさをね。

目が悪かろうが、

目が無かろうが、生き延びるためには、うだうだいってられないよ。

暇があるから、うだうだいうんだよ、

わたしゃーえさ探しでいそがしんだー。

 

 鳩に学ぶわたし。

 

Even if we were blind we would still need food to live.

This is a pigeon I saw that was blind but was still looking for food.

 

 

12月28日 

 

これも、はがきサイズ。

これは、典型的なUAEのストリートで、デイツの木が延々と植えてあります。

 

いま、黄色に色づいてきていて、

うちのアパートの庭のデイツも絵になる色になってきました。

Sheikh Zayed氏の発案により、品種改良された低木のデイツツリーは、とおりを歩くひとがちょっとつまんで食べられるようにとの配慮のうえときいたことがあるのです。

よい人です。

 

 

 

 

母への絵手紙は、なぜか、セピアで、アルアインのストリートを描いてみたものにしました。

新年を迎えるには暗いかな。

サンタクロース

 

12月18日

 

サンタクロースという言葉さえ、口からでてこなくなった今日このごろ。

子供が大きくなるということは、そういうことかも。

とはいえ、ぼーーっと、リビングで、お茶ぞやを飲んでいると、

突然目の前にやってきました、サンタクロース。

ような、アフガニスタン人のおじさん。

 

どこからみても、あの美しい骨格。

アパートの前で、なんでかドリルで穴をあけるこのサンタさんにみとれつつも、写真をぱちり。

ワンウエイガラスなので、向こうからは私がみえないのです。

なんだか、罪の意識を感じつつも、クリスマスに思い出に

この骨格を絵におさめねばと、、、、。

 

グレーのスカーフ(モスリムの人特有の）をさらりとかぶっていました。

 

 

Since my daughter knows Santa Clause is just her parents, I was thinking about sad it was that we can't say 'Santa Clause is coming.'

As if he had read my mind, an Afghani man walked in front of my house.

He had a beautiful face and beard.

Oh, I had thought to myself. He looks like Santa Clause.

Santa Clause is not Afghani, right?

 

 

 

 

 

来年の抱負。

花を描く。

もう、何年もおもい続けていた花たちに2013年はかならずーーー。

 

アルアインアートクラブのギャラリーも今年ついにオープンしたにかかわらず、

誰も、まだ花に挑戦できていない。

 

ようは、花をかくのはそれほどむずかしいということですね。

とこんなかんじで描いてみました。

まだ花1つはいいですが、これが、束になるともうお手上げです。

青い花はあとで、想像で、くっつけました。

 

My new year resolution will be to paint flowers every day!

 

　

 

この安物グラスを絵に描こうと思ってかったものの、

ほったらかし、5ヶ月。

やっと、モデルとしての出番がきました。

 

 

12月19日

 

小さな路地(路地は小さいわけかな)を見つけては除くという、知らない人が見たら、ちょっとおかしな趣味あり。ようは、そこにいる人が何してるかみたい。

今日は、お兄さんが、いいポーズで、携帯か、Iphoneかをかなり、真剣にみつめておりました。

 

 I love to see people and things as I'm walking down a path.

This guy was using his phone and there was a serious expression on his face and even though I was looking right at him, he didn't notice me.

 

 

　These days, everybody seems to want to feel we exist in the world to have a connection with somebody.

 

I got my first mobile was when I was 37 years old.

These days, even primary school kids have Ipad. 

 

 I can't imagine where this technology will take us.

 

向こうのありのようなのが、そのおにいさんです。

12月20日

1日1枚は花を描こう！
計画倒れにならないことを祈る。

なんと、
自画像は、3日でギブアップしたのです。実は。
理由。
自分の顔を鏡でしみじみ見るのに耐えられませんでした。
拷問に近いものがあり、断念。

 I just started my portrait 2 weeks ago and promised myself that I will do it for a year.
I gave up just after 3 days.

Actually I couldn't stand to see my face more than 5 minutes.

It was kind of torture. I'm going to paint flowers instead of self-portrait.


 

前後しますが、12月22日。
食べ物の残骸。

ちょっと、早取りでしたが、
ターキーをやき、
娘の友人家族を招き、
クリスマスデイナー。

ターキーは、いままでで、最高のでき。
塩と胡椒で、念入りマッサージ。わたしではなく、
ターキー。

レモンとたまねぎ、ローズマリーをおなかにいれる。

で、ポイントは、
30分ごとに、
オーブンからとりだし、肉汁を
ターキーにあびせる。だだっと。
おなかの中にもいれる。

なんと、絶品。
やわらかくて、
ターキーってこんなにおいしいのーー。
山のようにレシピをよみました。
が日本人のひとのレシピを今年採用。

写真入りで、すごくわかりやすかった。

ありがたやありがたや。

ガモンが食べたいがために、
クリスマスデイナーをするようなものだったのに、なんと、
今年は、ボーーーっとしていて、注文がおくれ、もう締め切られていてがっかりなので、
仕方なく照り焼きサーモンに変更。
あとは、ラムでタジーン。
クリスマスにモロッコ料理？

いや、これがもう美味なのです。

後は、チョコのロールケーキ、パンプキンパイに、いろいろやりました。
お客さんの食べっぷりがよかったので、
もう大満足。

これで、クリスマスは、
ひたすら、ターキーののこりですごすわけです。

I tried a roast turkey. I checked the Internet to get a nice recipe.
  Before roasting the turkey, I massaged it with salt and pepper.
And I poured the basting onto the turkey every 30 minutes.
I put some pieces of lemon, onions and rosemary into the turkey.
I chose one of the simple recipes and the result was absolutely gorgeous.

I got the best roast turkey in my life.

And a chocolate cake and a pumpkin pie.

watercolour papers

 

12月11日。

メーカーはどことは言いにくいけれど、新しく買ったかなり高い水彩紙、かなり使い方が難しく後悔。水をがんがん吸うので、色がどんどん吸い込まれて、汚くなっていくし、乾くのに、時間がかかり、さらに、汚くなる。いったいこの紙をどうやって使うのか興味はあるところ。

 

 I bought a new watercolour paper pad. I was so excited but this paper has a huge problem.

It absorbs water too much and it makes lifting the colours difficult.

I simply want to know  how other people are using this paper.

 

12月12日。

アジサイモスクとなづけたうちの近所のモスク。また、昨日と違う、

新しい水彩紙で描いてみるけれど、これも、水を色をどんどん吸ってしまって、汚くなる。

どうやって、取り扱っていいのかわからないまま。

 I named this mosque "Hydrangea mosque", because the doom has a beautiful bluish green which remains me of hydrangeas.I painted this before, but I tried to paint this again on the new paper, but the paint was absorbed quickly and turned really dirty.I have no idea how to handle this paper.

 

12月13日。

8日に行った、クリスマスコンサートでアコーでイオンをひいたおねえさん。

紙がたりなくて、あとで、くっつけて、A4

の4倍の大きさで、付け足して描いてみるけれど、そんなことで、いいものができるわけはない。

 

Christmas concert on 8th of December. She was an acordionist. About 200 dinner guests stopped chatting, because her performance was amazing. The tune was a very quiet Christmas tune. She grabbed all our hearts.

 

12月14日。

 

Al Ain Camel race trackの朝6時半ごろ。

わたしの、お気に入りの写真から。

これは、かなり気にいった。

朝のブルーグレーの雲の中に、ぽっこり太陽が見える。

残念なのは、空ににじみができてしまった。

カメラをうまく使えてなくて、空のピンクが白になってしまっている。

などなど、お気に入りとはいえ、問題多し。

 

It was around 6:30am.

The sun came up behind a pinkish grey cloud.

All 4x4s were waiting to run outside the race track along their camels to encourage them.

 

 12月1５日。
先日行った、Green Mubazzahの写真から。
一日中湧き出る温泉の湯がこういう風に、川になって、流れていっている。
説明的な絵はどうも、つまらないなー。

Green Mubazarrah in Al Ain. This is one the tourist point in Al Ain, because there is a hot spring.
There are separate male and female hot springs.
The hot spring water is running like this all day. I still don't know where it goes.

 

12月1６日。

日本を描こう！

この写真を、絵手紙友達のシニアさんの写真から、見たとき、

とんでもなく、感動。

構図もなにもあったものではないけれど、練習に描かせていただきました。

事後承諾取り付け中。

 

This is a old fashioned Japanese storehouse. I saw this in my Etegami friend's blog.

It inspired me, so I painted this from the photo, but I didn't plan carefully so the composition is not great.

 

12月17日。

 

新しいまた、違う紙の具合を調べるのに、

ちょっと、描いてみた。

 

紙はほんとに大切。

紙、筆、絵の具。

私としては、紙かな。

いい紙を使うと、仕事が簡単。

当たり前といえば、当たり前だけれど、

毎日のことだから、

そんなに高いものは、使えない身分。

安くて自分のお気に入りを探すのに一苦労。

これは、水彩をする人の永遠の課題なのでは？

 

 As a daily painter, the cost of watercolour papers causes problems.

Finding good quality paper at a reasonable cost is the eternal problem for all daily painter?

Christmas season

 

これは、前ポストしたかも。

母への絵手紙を出しそびれていて、せっかくだから、きょうもう1回披露目。

 

This is a card for mum. I was planning to post this one last week, but I left it in my car for a week. Oops.

Actually, it's my mum's birthday tomorrow. Happy birthday mum!

 

昨年の夏WWOOFERになって、お世話になったオランダの農家にプレゼントの絵を描きました。手前にあるのは、小屋で、わらがわさわさしているところが、かなりむずかしく、

雪のように見えなくもない。

まだまだです。

 Me and my daughter stayed and worked at a farm for 2 weeks in Holland last June. We had a fantasic time with family and animals. So I painted this as a Christamas present.

I hope they like it.

いま、この幸せを運ぶおじさんの絵に凝っている。まずは、友人へのクリスマスカードに。
I'm fascinated to paint a man who carries happiness with him just with a smile.

 

 

 

 

 

Since I was very busy last weekend, I didn't have enough time to go sketching so I did today. 

 

 

 

なんてことはないつまらない風景がこんなにすてきに！

となる計画だったけれど、計画だおれ。

 

遠方にある家がくっきりエッジになってしまった.

 

How can I change a boring scenary to a fabulous scene?

I was planning to do that but...I think I expect too much of myself.

これも、なんてことない風景。

が、こんなにすてきに、、、2回もおなじ事を言う必要はないかも。

朝日を浴びた、左手の大木の陰がとても、よかったのだけど、

さわりすぎて、どろどろ。

 

This scene is not fascinating either.

The trees on the left were showing really interesting shadows on the wall, but it was lost.

1年に数えるほどしか雨が降らないのこの国では、貴重なものだった。雨上がりに、

たまたま、サナヤ(車の修理屋さんが、わんわんあるところ）にいたので、夕焼けに染まる歩道を行くおにいさんのシルエットを逃すまいと、写真をぱちぱち。

ということで、現場ではなく、写真から。

雨上がりの空がとても、重厚な色合いだったのに、

なんだか、うすっぺらい空になってしまいました。これは、結構気にいったので、

また、来週にでも、挑戦してみたい。

右手にあるのは、車群です。説明しないとわからないというのは、悲しいかぎり。

 

How many times can we see rain in this country a year? 3 or 4 times?

 

We got a nice shower last week one day. I was in the Sanaiya area at that time.

 

After raining, the sky turned orange and the clouds were a very attractive shape and colour.

 

But I'm not satisfied with this piece.

 

 

The 41 UAE National Day

建国記念になにか描こうと、やはり、ラクダに挑戦。

 I wanted to paint this for the UAE National Day. This is from a photo of the Al Ain Camel race track.

これは、一番最初に描いたもの。
塩を使いすぎて失敗。

The above is the second piece, this is the first one. I used too much salt.

自画像を毎日1枚描くことにする。

よく考えれば、
自分の顔を描いたことがなかった。
1年で365枚。
つづくかな？


I've never tried to paint a self -portrait.
I'm planning on painting a self-portrait every day until next December.
I hope I have enough energy and paper.

 

似てるかどうかは、この際無視。

 I should ignore likeliness in this stage.

緑色のわたし。

It is interesing to paint with green.

黄色のバラの花の上に描いてみた。

 I tried to layer my face on a yellow rose.

ラクダ2匹はまだいい。
これが、3匹以上で重なってしまうと、
もう、悲惨。
どれがどの足がわからなくなる。
ラクダが、象のように、短くて、太い足をもっていたら、どれだけ仕事が簡単だろうとおもう。

It's easy to paint camels until you have to paint three all together as it is torture figuring out which legs go to which camel. I wish camels had legs like elephants which are short and big.

The Rotana debut

Al Ain Art Clubついに、5つ星ホテルで、デビューです。
私のを4枚1週間飾っていただいたので、次は、後のメンバーにバトンタッチすることにしました。15カ国からのたくさんの来客に向けてのデスプレイなので、
とてもすてき。
飾り方次第ね。
プロに見えるものです。
これを機会に、
いつも、声がかかるといいなと思っています。

本当は、建国記念日の12月2日だけの予定が、10日間も飾るということになったのは、私たちの絵のできばえがよかったからじゃないの？と思うことにしています。


シエイクザイード氏を描いたのですが、似てるかな？

これは、うちの前のモスク。ハニーをいれてみました。こんな風に散歩させてあげられたらなーと。

There is a beautiful mosque in front of our apartment.

Honey always look at it from our living room.

Poor cat.

 

子供に、風景画をかかせてほしいと、親からの要望があり、そういえば風景画描かせてなかったなと反省。
小学校のこどもがどういう風景画に興味を持っているのかと、ネットで探す。
せっかくこういう国にいるのだから、やはりモスクはいれないとだめかなと。

 モスク、木立、小屋、また木立の順番。

One of the kid's parent has asked me that let kids paint sceneries. I realized I haven't let them try a scenery. So I'm plannning what kind of scenery they should try as the end of term.


これは、小学生にはつまらなさすぎ？
いや、大人でも十分つまらないか。

明日が最後の日だったので、ぎりぎり。
アクリルでは、いつが終わりかわからないところがおもしろいといえば、おもしろい。
りんご？がどうも腐りかけて見えるので、四苦八苦したけれど、やはり、修正できないままで、ギブアップ。最近ギブアップ早いです。
あきらめも肝心。

I joined ''paintingdrawingtogether"again. 26th of this month was a dead line. So I had to finish quickly. I thought that acrylic is not my favourite, but it is really interesting medium, because we can paint forever. I can't see when I should finish. The fruits looks rot, but it is time over.



2年前の夏に滞在したフィンランドの農家の犬。シースー。
もうおじいさんで、ほとんど目はみえてなかった。
私たちが、トイレを借りに行くたびに、
ワンワンほえて、犬らしさを見せていた。
オーナーは、なにもいわないけれど、
多分、
今頃は、天国で、くつろいでいることだろう。

2010 summer, we stayed a farm in Finland. We were WWOOFER. Working together, eating togerther, drinking, fishing... we had a really good time with Mr.Marti and other WWOOFER and this dog  Sisu.

2年前は、バックを塗るという技がなかったらしいので、
今日、後ろを塗ってみた。
He was almost blind 2 years ago. I hope he still enjoys his life in the farm
